For JWE-Baumann, the IFFA 2019 was a complete success and the trade fair response shows that the long-established company BANSS is back on track.
At Banss, something is moving again: barely half a year after the takeover of the traditional manufacturer of slaughtering and conveyor systems, the signs point to growth. “The IFFA was a very clear signal that not only the regular customers are loyal to us, but that there is also great interest among new clients,” says Jürgen Weiß, the managing partner of the new Banss GmbH.
Last year, the more than 140-year-old manufacturer of slaughtering and conveying technology had to declare bankruptcy on its own responsibility. At the beginning of 2019, Jürgen Weiss, the owner of JWE-Baumann, took over the company. Banss, based in the Hessian Biedenkopf, and the JWE Baumann GmbH from Aalen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, whose scalding and dehairing machines are in demand worldwide, are still managed as independent companies, but pursue a common strategy. At the IFFA in Frankfurt, the internationally most important trade fair for the meat industry, the two partner companies appeared for the first time with a common stand. “Although we had doubled the area compared to the last IFFA, it was sometimes really tight on the stand,” reports Jürgen Weiß – especially when a group of 27 from Korea with decision makers from various companies were informed about the offer.
The trade fair analysis showed that the hopes for synergy effects have been confirmed by the Banss takeover. “We were able to see clearly that each brand benefits from the dealer network of the other company,” says Jürgen Weiß, “and it has also become clear that our growing joint product portfolio appeals to new interested parties.” Together, JWE-Baumann and Banss are able to serve customers of all sizes from the craft business to the industrial scale. “The trend clearly goes to the system installation,” says Jürgen Weiß, “and we have seen many benefits at IFFA in many ways, such as combining JWE machines with conveyor technology or CO2 stunning systems from Banss.”
The enormous response at IFFA has already led to the first orders. In the coming months, it is now time to turn the many other inquiries and business initiatives into concrete orders. “We still have a lot of work ahead of us,” says Jürgen Weiß, Managing Director of Banss and JWE-Baumann, “but the prospects are extremely positive. We were obviously able to initiate the U-turn at Banss much faster than we had hoped.”
Hall 9 Stand C40!
On course for growth: JWE-Baumann and Banss with a joint appearance at the IFFA
The signs point to growth: At around 300 square metres, about twice as large as at the last IFFA, the stand of JWE-Baumann GmbH in Hall 9.0 C40 will be expanding this year. Finally, there are not only improved and revised scalding and dehairing machines of the Baden-Württemberg manufacturer to see, but also systems of the new partner company Banss GmbH.
The Iffa shows unmistakably: Banss is back. Just over a year ago, the traditional company from Hessian Biedenkopf had to file for bankruptcy in self-administration. At the beginning of 2019 Jürgen Weiss, the owner of JWE-Baumann, took over Banss as managing partner. “What we have achieved in the few months since, exceeds all expectations,” says Jürgen Weiß. The entrepreneur cites the extremely positive development for three main reasons: “Outstanding employees, who are highly motivated, high-quality products and the company’s reputation, which is still good around the world.” After securing the future of operations through the acquisition, customers did not have to wait long. “Banss has already acquired the first new orders for system projects,” says Jürgen Weiß.
JWE-Baumann in Aalen and Banss in Biedenkopf are managed as separate companies, but in the future will cooperate more intensively. While JWE-Baumann, one of the world’s leading suppliers of scalding and dehairing machines, primarily appeals to medium-sized customers, Banss also offers system installations for industrial-scale quantities. “With that, we can now cover the entire spectrum from the craftsman’s business to the group,” says Jürgen Weiß, “and deploy technology from the sister company wherever it makes sense.” The first results of the collaboration between JWE-Baumann and Banss will be presented at the IFFA. “We are still working on a surprise,” reveals Jürgen Weiß, “but it is no secret that there will be, for example, JWE systems with conveyor technology from Banss in the future.”
The machines in the CM product line were extensively revised over the last few months. These machines now have a modular structure, with a design and construction that has adapted based especially on hygiene considerations. The JWE CM 250 singer furnace is now available in an additional version with 48 gas burners. Complete, detailed information is found in the new brochures that are now available for download.
Starting with this season, JWE-Baumann is even more involved than before as a sponsor of the third-league football team VFR-Aalen. This is made apparent by the highly modern, 100-metre long LED band on the back straight of the Ostalb Arena. Not only does that expose the JWE-Baumann brand to the stadium visitors in an emotional environment, but also to a national TV audience in the course of television broadcasts.
Two new employees joined the JWE-Baumann team in August of 2016 and January of 2017. The two new experienced colleagues are intended to strengthen the complete installations and systems area in particular.

The JWE Baumann Company presented its products on roughly 1,300 square feet at the IFFA in Frankfurt (Germany). For the JWE Baumann Company in Aalen (Baden Württemberg, Germany), 2016 is the year of the 20th company anniversary.
Naturally, ’20 Years JWE’ was our motto for this year’s trade show exhibitions. However, we did not only celebrate our 20-year milestone but also highlighted our company’s expanded market presence as provider of innovative products. Aside from the traditional JWE Baumann products for pig slaughtering, JWE Baumann also provides innovative complete systems for slaughtering goats, sheep and cattle. We discussed our new product lines and delivery programs with many domestic and foreign customers and with interested experts in the industry. IFFA visitors were able to see many of our innovative products live on the trade show grounds. Video presentations highlighted many of the remaining innovations.
Right on time for the IFFA trade show, we launched the new JWE Baumann website. Using the modern responsive design techniques, our webpages show our accomplishments and products and provide insights into our enterprise. JWE-Baumann celebrates its anniversary: A worldwide leading specialist in scalding and dehairing systems in just 20 years.
A hairy question: What does Aalen-Oberalfingen have in common with Australia, Barbados, the USA, Ecuador, Hawaii or Papua New Guinea?
These are just a few of the over 90 countries in which scalding and dehairing systems from JWE-Baumann are running. We are celebrating our 20 year anniversary this year.
The company was originally founded simply as a sideline: Director Jürgen Weiß wanted to carry on the spare parts business of a bankrupt machine manufacturer during the evenings and weekends. But the sideline quickly grew into a full-time job. “We were overrun with requests after such a short time that we started running our own production”, the industrial engineer remembers. Things at the scalding and dehairing specialist continued smoothly and continuously in the same direction over the past 20 years – namely upward with mostly double-digit growth rates. The takeover of the longstanding Stuttgart meat processing equipment manufacturer Oskar Baumann in 2005 was a milestone. Today, JWE-Baumann is one of the world’s most renowned suppliers of scalding and dehairing systems. The company is considered to be a leader in the world market, especially when it comes dehairing goats, a technically particularly challenging field.
What makes JWE-Baumann so successful? Jürgen Weiß lists technical innovations, individual customer solutions and utmost precision in production as key factors: “We stand for quality. Our customers know that a JWE-Baumann machine functions 100 percent.” Consequently, almost all machines which have ever been produced by the company – which now has a staff of over 20 – are still in operation. And Jürgen Weiß, who runs the family business together with his brother Roland Weiß, already has plans for the next few years. One particular goal is to expand the portfolio as a system provider of complete plants. “We want to continue improving and growing in all areas”, Jürgen Weiß says, “and eventually become the number one company in the world in the field of animal dehairing.”
IFFA is a special event for anyone who is involved in the meat processing industry. We at JWE-Baumann are no exception. The IFFA is our most important event of the year. On the one hand because we can prove the quality and performance of our products through direct comparison. On the other hand because we meet the people who are most important to us: our customers.
In 2016, we will be celebrating 20 years of JWE-Baumann at the IFFA and will use this big stage to showcase our entire portfolio in the field of scalding and dehairing systems and slaughterhouse equipment. More than ever, a visit to our booth F57 in hall 9 is worth it.
